Privacy Policy

TidyType is a keyboard extension that corrects grammar, spelling, and phrasing in messages you type, and optionally translates between supported languages. This policy describes what data we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have.

1. What we collect

• Email address. When you sign in with Google or Apple, we receive an email address for your account.
• Text you tap “Tidy” on. When you tap the Tidy button, the current text is sent to our servers and to third-party service providers so it can be corrected (and translated, if a target language is selected). This text is not stored on our servers after the correction is returned.
• Feedback you provide. If you tap thumbs up or thumbs down on a correction in your History view, we store the original text, the corrected text, your rating, and the target language/formality settings used. This helps us evaluate correction quality.
• Usage counters. We count the number of words you correct each week to enforce the free-tier weekly limit, and keep a running total of words corrected over the lifetime of your account. Individual corrections are not retained: only these counts, tied to your account.
• App version. When the app contacts our servers, it tells us which version of TidyType you are running and whether it is the iPhone or Mac app. We keep only the most recent version seen for each, plus the date it was last used, so we know which versions are still in use and which platforms to support. No history of previous versions is kept.
• Subscription status. If you subscribe to TidyType Pro, we store your plan, its renewal date, and the App Store transaction identifier. Apple processes the payment; we never receive your card details.
• Device identifier. A device-generated ID used to associate feedback records with the device that produced them.

We do not collect your name, phone number, location, contacts, photos, browsing history, or advertising identifiers. TidyType does not use advertising.

2. How we use it

• To perform corrections and translations you request.
• To authenticate you across the keyboard and main app.
• To enforce weekly word limits.
• To evaluate correction quality (using the feedback you submit).
• To operate, secure, and troubleshoot the service.

We do not sell your data. We do not use your data for advertising.

3. Third-party services

We use the following processors to operate TidyType. Each one only sees the data required for its specific role:

• Google (Sign in with Google). When you choose Google sign-in, Google authenticates you and returns your email to us. Google’s privacy policy applies to their handling of your Google account.
• Apple (Sign in with Apple). When you choose Apple sign-in, Apple authenticates you and returns your Apple ID or a relay email to us.
• Google Cloud and Amazon Web Services. We use services provided by these cloud providers to host TidyType’s infrastructure and to process corrections and translations.

4. Data retention

Your correction history (what you see in the TidyType app’s History tab) is stored only on your device in a local database. It is never uploaded to our servers. It stays on your device across sign-outs, kept separately for each account so other accounts on the same device cannot see it, and is deleted when you delete your account or remove the app. You can also delete individual entries at any time from the History tab.

What we retain on our servers:

• Correction text. Not stored. It is discarded as soon as the correction is returned to your device, typically under one second.
• Usage counters. Retained as necessary to operate the service.
• Your profile (email address, account settings, and the most recent app version seen for each platform). Retained until you delete your account.
• Feedback records (the thumbs-up/down ratings you send us, along with the original and corrected text they refer to). Retained for a limited period, then deleted automatically.
• Subscription records. Deleted when you delete your account, except records linking your App Store transactions to your account, which we keep to prevent the same purchase being claimed by another account.

5. Your rights and choices

• Access. You can request a copy of the data associated with your account by emailing us.
• Correction. You can update your email indirectly by signing out and signing back in with a different account.
• Deletion. You can delete your account at any time from within the app (see below).
• Feedback opt-out. Feedback is off by default. You can enable or disable it from within the app. When disabled, no thumbs-up/down data is sent to our servers.

Users in the European Union have additional rights under the GDPR (including the right to portability and to object to processing). Users in California have additional rights under the CCPA. To exercise any of these rights, email us at the address below.

6. Account deletion

To delete your account: open the TidyType app, go to the Settings tab, tap Delete Account, and type DELETE to confirm. Deletion cannot be undone.

7. Children’s privacy

TidyType is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect data from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with data, please contact us and we will delete it.

8. Security

Data is transmitted over HTTPS (TLS 1.2 or higher) between the app and our servers. Session tokens are stored in the iOS Keychain. Data at rest in AWS is encrypted using AWS-managed keys. No system is perfectly secure; we follow standard industry practices to protect your data.

9. International users

TidyType’s servers are located in the United States. If you use TidyType from outside the US, your data will be transferred to and processed in the United States. By using TidyType, you consent to this transfer.

10. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The “Last updated” date at the top will reflect the most recent change.
